ASORD has been working continuously for the livelihood improvement and empowerment of the rural women since decades. In the same series, we recently completed Self Help Promoting Institutes (SHPI) project with NABARD for the promotion, nurturing and linking of SHGs with banks for finance. The project was initiated in the year 2014 in the Pathariya block of Mungeli district. During the course of four years, we were successful in establishing 200 women self help groups. The organization also nurtured the SHGs by facilitating regular meetings, fostering self reliance and the capacity of group decision making among the women beneficiaries. The trainings organized for the SHGs were focused on upkeep, management of accounts, Microenterprise activities etc.

Out of the 200 SHGs created, 103 were linked to banks for financing small enterprises. These include activities like Dauna Pattal manufacturing, Dairy and Khoya production, Cosmetic Stores, Poultry farms, Fish ponds, Mushroom cultivation, ice-cream parlours etc. With the support from NABARD, Jai Bhawani Group, which is one of our 200 SHGs has started a Rural Mart in Mungeli which serves as a marketplace for the diverse products that the other SHGs produce. We further plan to create a federation of these 200 SHGs that can be registered as an Agriculture based Company in future.

“The establishment of Jai Bhawani Rural Mart by the support of NABARD has empowered not only our SHG but also has provided a marketplace for the products of other SHGs in the block”
